If you’ve never used a sewing machine or simply need a refresher, this class will build your sewing confidence. This class will introduce you to the basics of using a sewing machine including threading the machine, creating a bobbin, stitch selection and sewing seams. Put your knowledge to practice with a simple envelope pillow cover that you will complete in this class. Prerequisite: None! This is a beginner sewing class.

In this sewing skill builder class you will learn to construct a lined market tote and advance your sewing skills even further. Elements learned include making your own handles for the bag, applying a pocket, making box corners and lining the bag. It may sound like a lot but you will come away satisfied with your new skills as a beginner. Prerequisite: Sewing Machine Essentials class or previous experience using a sewing machine.

Once you’ve learned the basics of using a sewing machine you will be able to build on those skills by constructing this easy market bag. Using just one piece of fabric, we will learn to cut out the bag, attach the handles and use French seams to give this simple bag a polished finish. You probably will feel so confident in your skills that you will be reproducing this bag in many more fabrics at home. Prerequisite: Sewing Machine essentials or experience using a sewing machine.

This beginner workshop will build on the skills you learned in the Sewing Machine Essentials class and allow you to construct a lined market bag. We will use a festive red cotton and linen blend outer fabric and a cotton print lining. You can bring your own lining fabric to class if you have something you like.

Join me at POST Detroit for a workshop to learn to use a sewing machine. This is for beginners that do not have any experience, or limited experience with a sewing machine. We'll assemble an easy pillow to practice your new found skills.
